Focusing on current issues and finding short-term solutions is an approach that determines the success of the management of firms, governments, and organizations. Focusing on the now is also important on an individual level, in our careers or with our family, both mentally and physically. On the other hand, each present moment is a sequence which comes from the past and continues into the future. There are a lot of advantages to having a global consciousness. In order to understand the present and overcome current issues, it is important to be able to think in other dimensions. The present should be able to be lived together with the past and the future. Leading our lives looking at the big picture, living in the "wide tense” as it is called in Turkish, is important. The future has always been always an uncharted territory. We naturally explore the future in riding through it. This century is offering us a wild ride through the exponentially rapid advances in quantum computers, telecommunications, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, green energies and nanotechnology. In another dimension, our societies face the political challenges of more freedoms and rule of law, a not yet well conceptualized future for the democracy. Imminent financial and security risks as well as opportunities are stemming from radical changes in society. These changes all require smarter democracy and a smarter economy. Maybe ‘Democracy 4.0’ in the age of Industry 4.0.
